Electrical Safety Training 70E

This class will cover the components and safe practices required of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E. Attendees will learn the principles and controls required of an electrical safety program, establishing an electrically safe work condition, and requirements for arc flash protection, calculation for system calories, setting safe boundaries, and determining safe clothing, PPE, and tools.

Topics to be Covered:
• Basic understanding of NFPA 70E and accepted safe practices with regard to electrical exposures.
• Identification of exposures as viewed by 70E and appropriate safety action to take, when, and how.
• Personnel roles and responsibilities in ensuring implementation of safety for employee and contractor protection.
• Installation safety requirements including wiring design and protection, wiring methods, class I, II, & III, divisions 1 & 2, and class I, zone 0, 1, & 2, and working on or near live parts.

Instructor: Greg Bird, CSP and Vice President of Operations:
Greg has over 35 years of loss control and safety consulting experience with public (municipalities, school districts) and private clients ranging in size from 10 to 10,000 employees. Industries in which he provided service include healthcare, manufacturing, whole distributing, residential, commercial, and heavy industrial construction. His efforts have resulted in the reduction of the experience modifications from well above 1.0 (100%) to a range of 0.90 (90%) to 0.69 (69%). He has also achieved 1.25 million work-hours without a loss time accident.
Greg offers an extensive background in the fields of Safety & Health, Loss Control, and Fire Prevention, Protection, Suppression and Investigation. Greg has 15 years of experience as a Loss Control Manager, seven years as a professional firefighter and staff officer, and 10 years as a safety site manager in the heavy construction industry. He has been responsible for code enforcement activities, including issuing citations and appearing in court to provide testimony. Greg has also prepared, assisted and represented clients in OSHA and Cal/OSHA informal and formal appeals cases, with successful outcomes for the client.
Greg is a Certified Safety Professional, a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, and an OSHA Authorized Trainer for the 10- & 30-Hour Construction course.
